Gain a World Class Education at Your Convenience

If your ultimate goal is to graduate from The University of North Carolina but you prefer not to leave your home community, a well-planned and executed two-year program of study at a North Carolina community college is your most effective course of action.

The North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS)—the third-largest of its kind in the nation—comprises 58 separate campuses serving all 100 North Carolina counties. A joint UNC/North Carolina Community College System policy, the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA), ensures that community college students who fulfill specific requirements will, among other things,

  • be accepted for admission at one of the sixteen campuses of The University of North Carolina,

  • receive up to 64 semester hours of credit upon admission, and

  • be considered to have fulfilled the institution-wide, lower division general education requirements of the school to which they are accepted.

In addition to the CAA, nearly all UNC campuses have made individual arrangements—called bilateral agreements—with nearby community colleges to accept credits earned in Associate in Applied Science programs.
