About 2+2 Degree Programs

Created in 2005, the UNC-NCCCS E-Learning Intitiative encourages development of programs that allow students to earn baccalaureate degrees by completing two years of online course work through a community college followed by two years of online course work through a constituent institution of The University of North Carolina.  Early efforts produced programs in the areas of communication, criminal justice, liberal arts, and business, while current efforts concentrate on teacher education—especially in the high-need licensure areas of Secondary Mathematics Education, Secondary Science Education, Middle Grades Education, Special Education, Elementary Education, Birth through Kindergarten, and Biology Education.

This intitiative will result in full, four-year, articulated, online degree programs accessible from anywhere in North Carolina and, if successful, will increase the number of teachers available to staff the state's public schools, which are projected to need more than 11,000 new teachers every year for the next decade.
