Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies
University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Overview
UNC-Greensboro's Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (humanities concentration) will give you a thorough understanding of the humanities, the interconnections among them, and their relevance to individuals and to modern society. The humanities include those disciplines that study people—their ideas, their history, their literature, their artifacts, and their values. In your coursework you will investigate individual people in their solitude, life together in societies, and models of and for reality that constitute cultures. In some of your courses, you will tackle the big questions that have been the traditional province of the humanities such as, "What makes a life worth living?" Your coursework will encourage you to think critically and analytically, and will improve your written communication skills.
This online completion program is specifically designed for adult students who have earned a minimum of 60 hours of transferable credit at another institution. Course delivery is asynchronous and entirely online, enhanced by various interactive Internet-based learning applications and by streaming audio and video.
Requirements
The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies program requires 62 semester credit hours of study beyond the 60 hours you transfer into the program. Thirty of the hours you earn to complete your degree must be in the liberal studies major. Only the courses you take for your major are guaranteed to be offered online. For a full description of the curriculum, go to the program Web site. For more information on specific requirements, please see the department Web site.
In addition to regular coursework, you must take two core seminars, write an extended essay addressing questions central to humanistic study, and compile a Web portfolio of work from classes in your major.
