UNC Wilmington

The University of North Carolina Wilmington is devoted to the journey of learning, a love of place and an unshakable conviction in the power of ideas and innovation. Widely acknowledged for its superb faculty and staff, and continuously recognized at a national level for scholarly excellence and affordability, UNCW offers a powerful academic experience that stimulates creative inquiry, critical thinking, thoughtful expression and responsible citizenship.

UNCW, a public institution with approximately 14,000 students, offers an array of high-quality programs at the baccalaureate and master’s levels as well as select doctoral programs. As North Carolina’s coastal university, UNCW excels at education and research in the marine sciences. Other leading programs include accounting, business, chemistry, communication studies, creative writing, education, English, film studies, nursing and psychology, to name just a few.

In addition to the traditional collegiate experience, UNCW offers extensive distance education opportunities, including an accelerated R.N.-to-B.S.N. program taught exclusively online.  The program is specifically structured for working professionals, with six start dates per year and the potential for degree completion in 12 months. Other UNCW programs blend online and in-person instruction, offering students a wealth of learning experiences. The university also operates extension sites in several regional counties, including Onslow, where UNCW works closely with Coastal Carolina Community College, Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River to offer a number of programs designed for military personnel and their families.

UNCW is dedicated to diversity and inclusion, global perspectives and enriching the quality of life through scholarly community engagement in such areas as health, education, the economy, the environment, marine and coastal issues, and the arts. Through a strong relationship with the community, UNCW has become a significant catalyst for economic activity in Southeastern North Carolina and boasts $1 billion in annual economic contributions to the region. UNCW supports economic development through the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, several Cameron School of Business programs and cutting-edge biotechnology research at the CREST campus.

UNCW, located in the historic port city of Wilmington, has been part of the UNC system since 1969. UNCW is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and frequently receives national recognition for quality and affordability from Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review and other publications.
