North Carolina Military Tuition Policy: if you are on active duty military and stationed in North Carolina, you qualify for in-state tuition.

North Carolina is a "military friendly" state. North Carolina's General Assembly has established military-friendly tuition policies that apply both to UNC and community college programs. The North Carolina National Guard has one of the most comprehensive education benefit packages of all military branches.  Guard Members in North Carolina attending state colleges and universities are eligible to have all tuition and required fees paid, and there is also a textbook reimbursement program that pays up to $500.00 per semester.  Additionally, in-state tuition rates apply for any member of the North Carolina Guard regardless of your home of record.  Learn more about the NC National Guard at: www.nc.ngb.army.mil/education/, (919) 664-6194/6499/6272.

You are especially encouraged to consider a teaching career in North Carolina! This goal is made easier by the Troops to Teachers (TTT) program. The purpose of TTT is to assist eligible military personnel transition to a new career as public school teachers in targeted schools. A network of regional and state TTT offices has been established across the nation to provide counseling and assistance regarding certification requirements, routes to state certification, and employment leads. The North Carolina TTT homepage provides information and resource links, including a job referral system.

North Carolina wants you! If you are near in time to retiring or separating from active military service, please consider making North Carolina your official state of residence. State law entitles you to in-state tuition rates while you are on active duty, but if you inform your military unit now that you wish to change your official state of residence to North Carolina, you and your dependents will continue to be eligible for in-state tuition rates after you are no longer on active duty.
