Master of Science in Technology Education

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University

Overview

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University's Master of Science in Technology Education will prepare you for a career in public school teaching or industry. The program will provide you with both theoretical and practical skills in technology and pedagogy, and will satisfy the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction certification/licensure requirements for teaching technology education in the public schools.

Technology education teaches students about technology and its influences on society. Teaching jobs in technology education are so plentiful that it has been declared an area of critical teacher shortage by the U.S. Department of Education. This program is particularly useful if you already hold a bachelor's degree in industrial technology or engineering, if you are a licensed science or mathematics teacher, or a licensed trade and industrial education teacher. If you are not already a technology educator, enrolling in this program may help you get a teaching position in technology education while you work toward your master's degree.

The courses in the online Master of Science in Technology Education program are the same courses offered by the on-campus program, but you take your courses entirely online, with the exception of one on-campus seminar in which you must test out on machine safety.

Regular NCA&T faculty design and teach your online courses. You will stay in contact with your instructors, participate in classroom activities, and complete all the same work as students studying on campus, as required and on time, but you will do it from your computer at home.

Course delivery is both synchronous and asynchronous, enhanced by various interactive Internet-based learning applications.

Requirements

The Master of Science degree in Technology Education requires 39 semester hours of approved graduate-level courses. You must pass a comprehensive final exam, compile a products-of-teaching portfolio, and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to complete the degree program. For current degree requirements, go to the departmental Web site.
