About The University of North Carolina

The University of North Carolina has a rich heritage of academic excellence. Chartered in 1789, UNC was the first public university in the United States and the only one to graduate students in the eighteenth century. Today The University of North Carolina is a multi-campus university comprising a diverse group of sixteen institutions of different sizes and with different missions. Some UNC institutions focus on undergraduate education; others offer a range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.

The University of North Carolina's constituent institutions collaborate in a number of ways to provide affordable and high-quality access to higher education. This online Web site is one example of our dedication to efficiency and effectiveness.
