Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University
Overview
Across North Carolina, demand is growing for teachers certified in agricultural education and for professionals with training in agriscience. North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University's Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education degree will allow you to meet this demand by preparing you for a career in fields including secondary education, adult education, 4-H youth development, agribusiness, legal professions, higher education, or federal and state government.
Created in partnership with ten community colleges in North Carolina that offer degrees in an agricultural or horticultural discipline, this program is custom-tailored for students who have already earned an associate's degree under the guidelines of the 2+2 Online Studies program.
The courses in the online Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education major are the same courses offered by the on-campus program, but you take your courses entirely online. Regular NCA&T faculty design and teach your online courses, with some adjunct faculty approved by the agricultural education department. You will stay in contact with your instructors, participate in classroom activities, and complete all the same work as students studying on campus, as required and on time, but you will do it from your computer at home. Course delivery is asynchronous, enhanced by various interactive Internet-based learning applications.
To earn a teaching license, you must complete a minimum of twelve weeks of student teaching at a North Carolina middle or high school. If you are enrolled in the non-licensure track, student teaching is not required.
This program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction for the preparation of teachers in agriculture in the public school system.
Requirements
To earn a Bachelor of Science degree at NCA&T, you must earn at least 127 semester credit hours of academic credit, including a university core curriculum, 28-34 credit hours in your online major, a second major concentration, and various completion requirements. Courses outside your major will not necessarily be available online.
See the online curriculum guide for a full list of completion requirements.
