University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Overview
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is a diverse, student-centered research university, linking the Triad and North Carolina to the world through learning, discovery and service. A competitor and an innovator in academics and research, UNCG has positioned itself among the top-tier universities in North Carolina. As the world continues to change rapidly, UNCG has evolved as a leader in many capacities. It is recognized for groundbreaking research, community service, caring faculty, and high-quality education, and seeks to equip its students with the best tools for the future.
UNCG is a doctorate-granting university offering degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's, intermediate, and doctoral levels. Overall, UNCG's instructional programs are organized into the College of Arts and Sciences and six professional schools—The Bryan School of Business and Economics, The School of Education, The School of Health and Human Performance, The School of Human Environmental Sciences, The School of Music, and The School of Nursing. Degrees can be earned in 88 undergraduate majors, 66 master's and 22 doctoral programs.
UNCG is classified as a research university with high research activity by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Grants and contracts awarded to faculty for research, public service and creative activity have averaged more than $30 million annually for the past five years.
Students can enjoy signature programs, such as Communication Across the Curriculum and the Lloyd International Honors College, which have been developed to enhance the undergraduate academic experience. Other programs include Leadership and Service Learning, the Office of Undergraduate Research, the Center for Creative Writing in the Arts, Freshman Seminars, African American Studies and Women's & Gender Studies.
The university's award-winning, nationally recognized online programs are setting a new benchmark in distance learning. While many institutions deliver only text-based courses over the Web, UNCG incorporates online case studies, simulations and role-playing that make optimal use of the online medium. As a result, students are highly engaged and develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills so highly valued by today's employers.
At UNCG you'll find a diverse, yet close-knit community where faculty and staff look for creative ways to teach and connect with students. Among the historically white institutions, the university leads the UNC system in diversity with the highest percentage of minority students. Of UNCG's more than 16,000 students, 68 percent are female, 30 percent are from minority groups, 3 percent are international students and 9 percent are from outside North Carolina.

Our faculty members are committed to serving your learning needs and can be reached by email, fax, phone, or other web-based technologies. Most of your learning takes place at a place convenient for you—including your personal computer—although, depending on the program, you may be required occasionally to come to a location for an exam or laboratory exercise.
