As organizations evolve over time, goals and priorities change, and new initiatives and new directions arise. Existing initiatives must be carefully evaluated for alignment and effectiveness. After just such an evaluation, the UNC System Office has made the difficult decision to retire the Elementary Math Education Add-on Licensure (EMAoL) Exchange and Language Exchange.
What does this mean for course registration?
The EMAoL Exchange and Language Exchange registration platform is no longer available on the UNC System Exchanges site. Students may contact institutions directly to ask whether another registration option is available.
How should questions from students about courses they previously completed through the EMAoL Exchange, Language Exchange, or UNC Online be handled?
For courses completed through the Language Exchange, EMAoL Exchange, or UNC Online, the host institution automatically reported the final grade to the student’s home institution. The student’s home institution determined whether to award transfer credit and how/if the course would appear on their transcript.
If you have questions about transfer credit or how a course appears on your transcript, contact the Office of the Registrar at your home institution. If you need the letter grade earned in the course rather than the transfer credit recorded on your home institution's transcript, you may request an official transcript directly from the host institution where you completed the course.

Are there alternative ways for students to register for courses offered by campuses outside their own?
Yes, most campuses permit students to enroll as non-degree seeking or visiting students and register for courses.
If you are interested in taking a course at another institution, you must contact the institution offering the course. The institution can provide the most up-to-date information on enrolling as a non-degree-seeking or visiting student, including registration procedures, prerequisites, application deadlines, tuition and fees, and other institution-specific requirements.
Students should always consult their academic advisor before registering for a course at another campus to confirm transfer credit guidelines and discuss how/if the course will count toward their program.

What is the Inter-Institutional Program?
Several UNC System campuses participate in the Inter-Institutional Program.
The Inter-Institutional Program is a partnership among participating universities in North Carolina that allows enrolled students to take courses at other participating institutions. The program is administered by the participating institutions and is not managed by the UNC System Office. Students interested in participating should contact their academic advisor to discuss eligibility, the registration process, and any institution-specific requirements.
