As organizations evolve over time, goals and priorities change and new initiatives and new directions arise. Existing initiatives must be carefully evaluated for alignment and effectiveness. After just such an evaluation, the UNC System Office has made the difficult decision to retire the EMAoL Exchange and Language Exchange.

  • What does this mean for course registration?
    • Students can register for courses offered through the EMAoL Exchange and Language Exchange for the Spring 2026 semester.
    • Spring 2026 will be the final semester courses will be available through the exchanges.
  • Are there alternative ways for students to register for courses offered by campuses outside their own?
    • Yes, most campuses permit students to enroll as non-degree seeking or visiting students and register for courses.
    • Students should always consult their advisor before registering for a course at another campus to confirm transfer credit guidelines and discuss how/if the course will count toward their program.
    • The campus offering the course can provide the most up-to-date information on how to enroll as a non-degree seeking or visiting student, as well as details on registration procedures, prerequisites, application deadlines, and billing.
  • Several UNC System campuses participate in the Inter-Institutional Program.
